For one band there is only one thing that drives their creativity and that is BEARDS! The Beards have dedicated their craft to the mighty beard. Their most recent release “Having A Beard Is The New Not Having A Beard ” was released last month with a tour to follow. “It’s our third concept album about the same concept – the only concept of any importance to any of us – beards!” Explains drummer John Beardman Jnr.

The Beards were born out of frustration in Adelaide, South Australia. Johann Beardraven (vocals, keyboards, and saxophone) reenforces the band’s mission: “I regard us as freedom fighters. We started this band because bearded men in Australia were heavily discriminated against. We provided a voice for the bearded underdog and now everyone in our country has a beard.”

What started out as a one off show in their hometown in 2005, The Beards now have achieved world wide cult status. There is no denying their pro-bread stance with their celebratory electric live shows coupled with the crafted musicianship of every bearded member. Just like no jacket is required for a Phil Collins show, no beard is required for their show, however, after witnessing the live pro-beard experience first hand, there will no longer be a need for those razors in the medicine cabinet.

“Ciggy Stardust” is part of the recently released full length album, “Lazy Bones” from Blacktooth Records. “Lazy Bones” is anything but lazy. Forged from the anvil of the 90′s Detroit garage scene, “Lazy Bones” is nine tracks of beat driven, gritty garage riffs. Expect Chrome Pony to move out of the garage and into the rock clubs.

He is continuing to do so until August 2013.

This month’s installment, Volume IX, is riddled with the art synth of the dark new wave sound. “Mutual Forgivness”, the third track on the release, is reminiscent of an 8 bit video game soundtrack which blends seamlessly into the gentle melody of the lyrics. That gentle melody remains constant throughout the eight tracks on the release. This volume continues along the path of the other volumes that have preceded it. It is specifically crafted to be heard through headphones.

All content from Fat Possum Records -

Better 40 years later than never: The follow-up to the first record ever to bear the Iggy and the Stooges logo–the immortal proto-punk masterpiece Raw Power–will finally be out April 30, when Fat Possum Records releases the all-new Iggy and the Stooges studio album, Ready To Die.

Ready To Die finds Iggy Pop,guitarist James Williamson and drummer Scott “Rock Action” Asheton reunited for a full album of all-new material for the first time since the legendary Raw Power sessions, with Mike Watt filling in for the late Ron Asheton on bass. The results are the closest thing to a time capsule to 1973–or at least to Iggy’s subsequent efforts with Williamson, including 1977′s Kill City and 1979′s New Values–that rock ‘n’ roll is likely to proffer in this millennium. The new album’s opening one-two of “Burn” and “Sex & Money” pair sublimely blunt and self-explanatory subject matter with back alley razor-blade guitars and a troglodytic rhythmic stomp as intensely single-minded as Iggy’s lyrical statements of intent. Elsewhere on the album, anthems abound in the form of the most dead-on rallying cry for the lower-working-class dispossessed to date–the succinctly and aptly titled “Job”–as well as a title track that mixes a signature Iggy Pop mission statement of angry desperation with guitar pyrotechnics that recall those halcyon opening salvos of “Search & Destroy.”

Just as Iggy exhumed the original Stooges name when he reunited in 2003 with the Asheton brothers, the revival of the Iggy and the Stooges moniker that first appeared on the cover of Raw Power heralded the return of guitarist James Williamson to the fold in 2009, or as Iggy put it then “although ‘the Stooges’ died with Ron Asheton, there is still ‘Iggy and the Stooges’.” As far as the decision to record and release a new Iggy and the Stooges album for the first time since 1973, Iggy recently commented:

“My motivation in making any record with the group at this point is no longer personal. It’s just a pig-headed fucking thing I have that a real fucking group when they’re an older group they also make fucking records. They don’t just go and twiddle around on stage to make a bunch of fucking money…”

Comparing the latest album to the first LP and down to the EPs, there is a detection of maturity in the Kestrels’ sound. But even as their sound matures, it still embraces the 90′s indie pop scene which creates a paradox by sounding both new but classic at the same time.

Back To The Ache is scheduled to be released on CD and digital though Greyday Records (I Was Totally Destroying It, Shipbuilding Co.) on March 19th with a vinyl release following on May 21st.

The Heligoats is comprised with Chris Otepka (vocals/guitar), Nate Lanthrum (drummer), Steve Mitchell (guitars/keys), Dave James (bass), Nick Lombardo (keys) with added percussion from Erik Rassmussen, who recorded the album and also mixed part of the album.
Back to the Ache is The Heligoats follow up to their 2010 debut, Goodness Gracious. Back to the Ache is littered with the influence of the alt-folk sound but as the album progresses, it transcends into something more complex than just a rustic folk flavor. It becomes more layered and textured and forms rich, melodic, indie-rock vibes. Highlights from the album include Drai Zich, Dark and the first single Tofutti which can be heard on NPR’s All Songs Considered.

The Heligoats are touring in support of the new album.
